Can you put essential oils in an oil warmer?
Fill the bowl on the oil burner with water and add a few drops of your chosen essential oil. You can also use essential oil wax melts as an alternative. Underneath the bowl place a tea candle in the space provided, which will then start to gently heat the water, so it mixes with the essential oil. All you need is a little water in the bowl of the oil burner or container of your electric oil diffuser (maybe half to two thirds full) and a few drops of essential oil (3-5 drops for a small bowl/container, 5-8 drops for a medium sized one and 7-10 drops for a large one).
Are essential oils damaged by heat?
Heat and light can degrade essential oils, reducing their effectiveness and altering their scent. During summer, be sure to store your oils in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and extreme heat (avoid keeping them in your car or near windows). The scent from the essential oils can last anywhere from a few hours to several days, depending on the type of oil used and the concentration. It’s important to note that the scent may fade over time.Essential oils do oxidize eventually, but this happens more quickly with increased exposure to high temperatures, light and oxygen (air). To prolong their lifespan, keep essential oils in a cool, dark place, such as a refrigerator. Most will last at least two years before starting to degrade, unless they contain one of the unstable carrier oils mentioned earlier. And some can last for as long as 15 years without losing their effectiveness. Many experts advise replacing essential oils every three years to be safe.
