Do essential oils moisturize hair?
Geranium oil strengthens hair. Jojoba oil moisturizes the hair, adds nutrients, and stimulates the scalp. Lavender oil deep conditions the hair, keeps it shiny, and helps control dandruff. Moroccan argan oil moisturizes, nourishes, and provides antioxidants to hair. Moisturising oils – think Coconut and Argan – are amazing for getting deep hydration into your hair strands. Sealing oils – like Jojoba and Almond Oil – will lock whatever moisture is already in or on your hair.Avoid Heavy Oils for Fine Hair Coconut or castor oil may seem nourishing, but these thick oils can suffocate fine strands. Their dense composition coats the hair, creating a greasy appearance and weighing it down. Instead, choose lighter alternatives, such as argan or grapeseed oil.
Can I put essential oils directly on my hair?
Essential oils should never be applied to the skin or hair undiluted. Instead they should be mixed with a carrier or base oil – Jojoba, Almond, Avocado and Olive are great as base oils for scalp massage. You can put essential oils in your hair, but only when they are properly diluted. Applying them directly to the scalp or strands may lead to irritation, dryness, or sensitivity. In addition to inhaling essential oils, you can benefit from using them topically. Because they are fat-soluble and the molecule is so small, they are able to cross the blood-brain barrier where they can support emotional well-being and influence other fat-soluble hormones, such as thyroid hormones.
