What is boneset tincture good for?
Boneset is used to reduce fever, increase urine output, cause vomiting, and treat constipation. Boneset is also used to treat influenza, swine flu, acute bronchitis, nasal inflammation, joint pain (rheumatism), fluid retention, dengue fever, and pneumonia; as a stimulant; and to cause sweating. Caution: Common Boneset is emetic and laxative in large doses, and it may contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids that are potentially harmful to the liver. Landscaping and wildlife: The nectar from the flowers of Common Boneset is very attractive to a variety of pollinators, including bees, wasps, and butterflies.When taken by mouth: Boneset is POSSIBLY UNSAFE. It can cause severe diarrhea and vomiting. Also, some plants that are related to boneset contain chemicals called pyrrolizidine alkaloids. These chemicals can damage the liver.
What is the benefit of Boneset tincture?
In a test tube study, a particular polysaccharide in boneset was found to stimulate immune cell function. This may partially explain its use to treat minor viral infections, such as colds and the flu. Boneset also triggers sweating by raising body temperature, potentially of benefit for colds and flu as well. Boneset has been used for influenza (flu), the common cold, symptoms of lung infections, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. Boneset contains chemicals that might have some mild activity against bacteria.
What is tincture best used for?
They’re great for acute concerns like winter ailments, period pains, digestive grumbles and so on, partly due to ease of use, but also because herbal tinctures are far more concentrated than herbal teas. However, a downside of tinctures may be the alcohol they contain. Fresh herbs such as ginger, and turmeric are not suitable to produce tincture as these herbs require very high alcohol strength (up to 90% alcohol) to extract goodness from them. Inherent moisture prevents final product to achieve such high alcohol strength and therefore may lead to inferior product quality.
