What are the benefits of Rauwolfia?
Rauwolfia was used for the treatment of anxiety (and is currently being used for hypertension in some parts of the world) among other disorders, and is likely to have been used to treat insomnia (its side effects include drowsiness). In addition, rauwolfia exerts a significant antagonistic effect on dopamine. Although this may promote sedation and sleep, it may also cause unpleasant side effects commonly associated with antipsychotic medications, including problems with coordination and stereotypic movements.
